Welcome to the Wilder Shores

Aloha, dear wanderers in cyber-space, and welcome to the Wilder Shores.  No, we do not hail from Hawaii. But I  like the sentiment expressed by Aloha.  The Wilder Shores of which we speak exist primarily in the imagination.  And it is there that a fire must be kindled if one is to live the Life of the Senses.

Coincidentally, when we think of fire we soon think of cooking.  The first appetite that must be satisfied is the hunger for food–the most primal of all the appetites, the one that sustains life and therefore the other senses.  Only then can we move on to the satisfying of our other appetites.

In more primitive times our senses held the key to survival.  Now we have progressed to a more exalted level of being where the mere satisfaction of basic needs is not enough.  Twigs and insects and other barely palatable foodstuffs are no longer desirable.  We must have sustenance of a more refined character.  It must appeal to the aesthetic side of our nature, a later appearing sensibility which  has been evolving along with our senses.

Food and drink, music, song, and dance, flowers and perfume, art, literature, laughter, and, of course, love–these equal the Life of the Senses that we all seek.  Since I have been actively engaged in this quest for a very long time, perhaps I can share a bit of knowledge here and there to speed you on or a word of caution to spare you.
